Thamizh Organic Farmers Association (THOFA)
Agriculture is the foundation of the Indian economy, with around fifty-five percent of the population dependent on agriculture and related sectors for their livelihood. Despite this significance, farmers and others directly associated with agriculture are facing economic hardships. Moreover, the nation’s food security is also at risk due to the population growth and the reduced output.
Thamizh Organic Farmers Association (THOFA) is a major vertical of FWC, dedicated to ensuring the sustainability of agriculture, particularly small farmers. FWC is committed to establishing effective models to support individual farmers and the communities financially and socially.
FWC is passionate about promoting organic farming through various initiatives. This begins with raising awareness among the farmers about organic farming practices. Sustainable farming practices ensure the production of non-toxic food, safeguarding human health.
Fostering of group farming among smallholders, transforming them into Agriprenuers, providing marketing and other requisite support. Collective farming enables economies of scale, bolstering enhanced viability.
FWC also embraces the latest technological advancements and by leveraging tools like drones, robotics and sensors, it attempts to boost productivity and reduce production costs.
Another major initiative of FWC is the Smart Tribal Farming, aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by tribal communities. In this regard, exploratory visits to tribal villages in Nilgiris and Javadu hills have been made to plan the next steps.
Furthermore, FWC endeavors to promote vetiver cultivation (Vettipreneurs) and promote value-added products from this resource.
Through these concerted efforts, FWC aims to foster a resilient and sustainable agricultural ecosystem in India.
